I wish

I wish I had a reason to wear a gown like this lovely Alberta Ferretti one from her fall collection. Or actually, a reason to wear any gown. What event in a normal, 9-to-5 working, non-celebutante type of girl's life allows or requires a gown after the prom and before the wedding age?

Who wants to take me to the ball?

The fall runways continue to reinforce my legwear lurve as evidenced by Luisa Beccaria's line above. Which, I might mention, is absolutely gorgeous. I love all fashion (well, I at least respect all fashion), but shows that make me feel like I'm living a dream hold a particularly special place in my cold dead heart. The icy cool colors, soft feminine shapes, luxurious fabrics, sparkly runway, and pops of red lipstick in Luisa Beccaria's line are nothing short of a vintage-themed fantasy.

Albino Fall 2010. I'm a sucker for a-line cuts, peter-pan like collars, and bow details.

Although gone...

...I still love to read Daul Kim's poetic blog posts. I guess I see beauty in darkness. The one below is dated 10/7/2009.

say hi to....

there is nothing

nothing

but self satisfaction

and high high desires of beautiful beautiful things

for me, it is good looking things

well designed things

good looking things that translate into something more

something more than cigarettes

something more than infatuations

perhaps love

love for things , very good looking things

good looking things that translate into something more

something tender

something of more than self-satisfaction

something more complex

more

replacements

of lost things that hurt

Overalls

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2010

I got to work this morning to find an RZP email about overalls. I was just telling my boyfriend overalls will come back soon, and this was prior to any spring or fall runway shows or the March issue of Elle. I guess I kind of see it as history and time repeating itself (as it always does). The whole early 90s 90210-inspired style came back, plaid, grunge, bits and pieces of my beloved Clueless look, and so of course, overalls had to return as well. I got my first pair at 10. I loved them best with little white tees. I still have a pair at my parents' house that I can whip out and update for a modernized look. I think maybe cropped or cuffed a little, possibly in a fancier fabric, wedges or little heels, bow blouse and cute hair? Maybe some ribboned bow-type headband with messy hair? When's my next trip home?

Clogged

Chanel Spring '10

Jeffrey Campbell Charlie

As posted a few times before, I love the Jeffrey Campbell Charlie clog. I missed my chance to preorder the black ones on the Singer22 site. I thought I'd have enough time, but waited and missed. Boo! Instead, I preordered the tan (ships in June!). Now, I'm not sure how I feel about the tan, since I think I actually would prefer the natural (above). I think the black is great for winter with tights, but the tan and natural colors would be perfect for summer and spring with bare legs and little dresses. SO, I've purchased both the tan in the Charlie style, and the Beige Wool in the Karl style. They were all that were available! I can't keep both so I'll have to decide when I get them. If there is anyway I could get the natural color, I'd pounce on it!

Leather Lurve

I REALLY wish I had $800-$1500 to throw down on a leather jacket like Rag & Bone's Bowery Leather Jacket above.

A high quality, classic leather jacket has been on my list of wants for a few years now (along with a perfume, a vintage men's watch, the Chanel Jumbo XL, the never-ending search for great basics, and others). It started when I spotted Ashley Olsen in a cute little cropped one, and when Kate Moss's first line for Topshop came out. I still love the Kate Moss one, with the asymmetrical cut and round collar. I've yet to find one as perfect as that one, but the Rag & Bone one comes very close.

I also love this Mike & Chris Dresden version (and several other of their leather jackets). The problem with this one is that aside from it being $825, I saw it on Hautelook for $200 and missed out. I was devastated! Since I knew I could've gotten it for $200, I couldn't get myself to spend 4x the amount.

So the search continues...

Dollhouse

This is an old video from when Erin Fetherston collaborated with Target a couple years ago, but I still love it. I love dolls (even if they have a creepy reputation) and fantasy so it's no wonder I'd love this video too.

Oh knee/otk highs. I have loved these ever since I was 10, when the lovely Alicia Silverstone donned several pairs as Cher - along with Stacey Dash and Brittany Murphy (RIP) - in Clueless. Always wanted a pair. At 10, I didn't know how to get my mom to buy me any, so I'd steal her black trouser socks instead. I wanted white knee highs to go with the plaid skirts and baby tees of the time, but my mom's black trouser socks were the best I could do.

Anyway, I'm glad to see my Clueless post a few months ago wasn't totally off. Looking at Fall runways this year reinforces my love and prediction for the 1995 trend. Since my Clueless post, I've stocked up on a black pair and navy pair. I've had several white pairs for years now, but never had the courage to whip them out. My boyfriend says these types of socks look "naughty" to men, which is quite unfortunate since I don't want to look slutty, just stylish.

Well, as I've always said, I dress for me, not for men or anyone else. Is it too early to now wish for fall again? It is and has always been my favorite season.

Pug Luv

Love a designer with several chubby little puggers.

Chanel x4

Playing around with the new Photoshop app I downloaded for my phone.

Dolce Vita April

Love these YSL Imperiale-inspired heels! Got lucky and got the last pair NATIONWIDE in my size last night at The Grove. The right foot actually has a small stain on it, but since they were the last pair, I still got them (with a 10% discount). They also had them in black leather, but I think the suede looks much better. They also have suede soles. Fancy soles always make me feel more expensive and luxe (heh).

Dream

Marchesa

Fall10. Georgina Chapman is beautiful as are her designs. I have no words to describe how much I want every single one of these lovely delights.

(obviously I couldn't choose just a few photos)

Red NYC

Love this from The Sart.

Girly

The girly girl in me loves Erin Fetherston. Girly and fantasy-inspired, it's a nice escape from my real world of denim and everyday practicality. Her Fall '10 line showcased dresses and well-tailored pants and jackets, but I love Erin Fetherston for her romantic dresses. Some of my favorites above.

"I could make party dresses forever, but it's good to push yourself to try new things," she said. Even the biggest dreamers need to return to reality sometimes.

Vintage Vogue

Braidy

Hair Lurve.

The fashion world sure does love the braids from Alexander Wang's SP10 show (and so do I).

It's unfortunate that I just cut my hair a few weeks ago. My pre-cut hair was extremely long and Rapunzel-like. It would've been perfect.

I love coming home to find a fat March issue of Elle on the table. Remember when in middle and high school the March issue of Seventeen would be really thick because of all the prom advertising?

This post ages me.

When I say I want big fat teased hair, this is what I mean (I'm a little crazy).

I found his work very interesting and never banal. There was always some attraction to death, his designs were sometimes dehumanized. Who knows, perhaps after flirting with death too often, death attracts you.
-Karl Lagerfeld on Alexander McQueen

Pretty words. I've always found death and its circumstances fascinating too (ask anyone). Don't worry, I won't ever have the guts to ever do what he did.

Scott's Words

I think Scott Schuman says it best:

Alexander McQueen and Dries Van Noten were the two shows I was most excited to see during my first Paris fashion week.

To me, McQueen represented the drama of fashion. He represented the conflict and harmony of being a craftsman and an artist - Savile Row training, runway dreaming.

There are people in fashion I always figured I'd meet sooner or later.
I'd meet them in a very natural way (introduced by a mutual friend at a party or something) and the encounter would be so much more meaningful that way. McQueen was one of those people I felt I had time to meet. I almost wanted to save him for later. Not a conscious effort but just a concept. Well...I'm sad that won't be the case.

I hope we all remember him for the genius he brought to fashion.

ps. I'm rereading what I wrote and what has been written on other sites and blogs.

All very nice but I still feel so unsatisfied, so empty, even a little mad.

When a bigtime movie star or politician dies someone like Tom Brokaw has always been there to help put it into perspective.

If it was a sports star, fans would talk about it for days on talk radio.

However, for someone that loves fashion Alexander McQueen is just gone and no one seems to be able to make sense of it.

There doesn't seem to be anywhere to turn to make it feel right or understandable.

I don't have any answers for you either. All I know is this sucks.

Boots

Isabel Marant is my new boots lover.

She seriously makes the most coveted boots (at least for me). So boho chic! I saw the black studded Otway boots months ago but it slipped my mind that they were also Isabel Marant. I saw a similar pair to the brown chain ones at a cheap storefront in Paris. I really liked them, but I wanted something a little more high end (they were all manmade materials). Now I wish I would've bought them. Why didn't I? They were only 20 Euro! Now I'm on the hunt for the Zara lookalikes of the chain wrapped pair.
